The Semester can be stressful and right around midterms is when you will notice students become a little more stressed than they normally are. However, we have some great tips that you can share with your students about eating well and on a student budget to ensure they are helping their own stress levels stay low!

Here are 5 Healthy Eating Tips for Managing Stress in College:

1. Drink lots of water!

Cal State LA has various water fountain locations as well as water filling stations where students can fill their water bottles. There is a filling station conveniently located in the Library and students are encouraged to take advantage of the free cold water station to stay hydrated while on campus.

2. Don’t skip meals!

When students are taking back-to-back classes, it is very easy to skip meals. However, skipping meals is never a great idea because as the day goes on you will lose energy and become hungrier. Encourage students to always eat at least 3 meals in their day!

3. Have snacks on hand!

Keeping healthy snacks on hand is a great way to make sure you have reserve energy sources while you are going about your day. Healthy snacks like granola bars or trail mix are ideal for snacks and are easy to carry around in a school bag.

4. Take time for yourself!

Encourage students to take some time for themselves. There are various locations on campus where students can find some quiet time to relax and get a minute to regroup from their whole day. There is a reflection room available in the University-Student Union for students if they need a break from the hustle and bustle of the campus.

5. Find family support and encouragement!

One of the biggest things families and loved ones can do to help stressed students is to show them support and constant encouragement. Students can often forget the bigger goal of why they are taking so many classes and working so hard, so it is amazing to have family and loved ones remind you that you are awesome and capable of amazing things!
